On behalf of the Victorian Government, I would like to congratulate the Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Society of Australia on the occasion of its 40th anniversary gala, for its dedication to championing the cause of Australians who are affected by genetic blood disorders.
For forty years the Society has served as a valuable support and advocacy network for those affected by thalassaemia and other genetic related blood disorders, working to improve the prospects of thos living with blood disease, healthy families who are genetic carriers, and children who may face a lifetime of transfusions, chelation and other therapies.
I particularly want to congratulate the Society and its volunteers for helping Australians overcome linguistic and cultural barriers to treatment, advocating and increasing awareness of the disease and the importance of donating blood, improving access to treatment and testing facilities, and helping to fund medical research on genetic blood disorders. This is extremely beneficial work.
On behalf of all Victorians, I would like to thank the Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Society of Australia for its sustained dedication, over many years, to improving the health and quality of life of those affected by genetic blood disorders.
The Hon Daniel Andrews MP
