DEGC Good Friday fundraiser for TASCS Australia

On the 7th April, the Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Society of Australia received at its office centre during its committee meeting, a visit from delegates of the Double Eagle Golf Club (DEGC). The delegation led by Mr George Bourozikas, came to present to TASCS Australia, the donation proceeds from their Good Friday Charity Golf Day which helped raise $3,125.00 for the ongoing work of TASCS Australia.

The delegates who come from Melbourne’s oldest Hellenic based social golf club, enquired about the nature of the genetic blood disorders of thalassaemia and sickle cell anaemia, and how TASCS Australia supports these efforts.

The committee, led by current president, Mr Sotirios Katakouzinos, spoke at lengths about the advocacy, education and community support to which TASCS Australia serves, as well as current developments in treatment and medical research. Mr Katakouzinos highlighted in particular, the need to raise monies for continuing medical research and the importation of medical support equipment such as infusion pumps for thalassaemia and sickle cell anaemia sufferers.

After further discussion, Mr Bourozikas and fellow delegates, confirmed that Double Eagle Golf Club will endeavour to convene an annual golf charity day to raise funds for TASCS Australia. Mr Bourozikas then presented to Mr Katakouzinos, the cheque from this year’s fundraiser, to which Mr Katakouzinos and the committee warmly thanked the Double Eagle Golf Club for their generous contribution.
